One of the most important aspects of entertainment is the sound. Ever since sound was introduced to motion pictures, it has become an important part of the experience. Stereo sound has especially been used with the changes in film formats which allowed for CinemaScope and other aspect ratios. With 70MM film came six tracks of sound for an enveloping, and immersive experience.

Nowadays, people can have multi-channel surround sound in their homes. They could use it for watching movies, TV shows, or even playing video games. Everything is in stereo. The soundtracks are mixed so that they can give a beautiful experience for the viewer. However, there is a limitation. For one thing, people are can't turn the sound up all the way without risking he annoyance of neighbors. Fortunately, there are headphones that have some of the same capabilities of some sound systems. They can deliver a rich and crisp sound like some of the best sound systems can. One could also turn it up to comfortable levels.

Gone are the days when people watch movies on a very small TV screen in mono sound. Nowadays, many people have a set up with a fair sized screen and great resolution. While a good picture may bring out some of the liveliness of the film, there are a lot of aspects of the experience that only a good sound system could bring out. Now, good sound can be taken from smartphones and tablets with the right configuration. Sound systems have definitely come a long way from when they were first invented.
